In the war between Siam (now Thailand) and Burma (now Myanmar) from 1767 were in the conquest of the former capital Ayutthaya destroyed most records of the art and traditions of Muay Thai. Some sources report that Thai boxing to go back to 1560, when King Naresuan of Siam was captured in Burma. They told him to prison, if he could defeat in a duel Burma's champions. The king had success and became the national sport of Thai boxing. There is also a second theory, which states that have been found during archaeological excavations evidence that the indigenous people of Thailand already knew Muay Thai-like techniques. What we know for sure, however, is that Muay Thai has evolved from the ancient martial arts of the Thai soldiers.

The Muay Thai developed from regular martial arts. If the sword and spear were unusable, the warrior used his legs, elbows and fists to fight. The classic, traditional style called Muay Thai Boran (Boran = traditional, old [word borrowing from the Pali language]). Muay Thai Boran is a very complex traditional martial art, which includes not only the fighting with various weapons, but also movements that go far beyond the unarmed techniques of modern Muay Thai. Krabi Krabong (short-and long-gun) is the fighting with various weapons, such as Krabi (sword), Daab (sword), Plong or Sri Sock (floor), Ngauw (stick with a short sword essay), dung, Kaen, May Sun and Loh (plate).

The first official ring was used in 1921 and 1929 for the first time boxing gloves were used. Previously they had been fighting with hand drums. The jock strap was made from coconut shells. As a measure of time for one pass was valid until 1929, a coconut shell, which had a hole and was placed in the water. Went under the shell, the passage was closed.
